In a challenging neighbor bordering Duke University, the Lakewood YMCA was a true community asset, providing a sense of belonging for people of varying races, cultures and economic status. Amidst dwindling attendance in the mid 80’s along with the inability to fund much-needed repairs, Lakewood’s doors were closed in favor of a newer facility in downtown Durham, a few miles away.

Coming full circle, we were tasked with developing a campaign to re-launch the original Lakewood YMCA. Relying heavily on 70’s nostalgia and Lakewood’s significance, we introduced a whole new generation to the power of community.
